„Franco-Slovak cooperation - in organizing the 80th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising in Strečno“
On Monday, March 18, 2024, French Ambassador Pascal Le Deunff visited the Žilina Region, meeting with Regional Chairwoman Erika Jurinová and visiting the Bilingual Gymnasium T. Ružička. During his visit, he also stopped by the 5th Special Forces Regiment (5th SFR) in Žilina. Ambassador Le Deunff and the regiment's commander, Colonel Peter Žochňák, fine-tuned the details of the cooperation between the 5th SFR and the French Embassy in organizing the 80th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising in Strečno. Colonel Žochňák remarked, "France and Slovakia are historically connected through figures such as Milan Rastislav Štefánik - an astronomer, politician, aviator, diplomat, and French general. In this context, I also mention Jozef Gabčík, who fought for France before being trained in the United Kingdom to carry out Operation Anthropoid."
